Reconnecting Nottingham to the Trent

The UK has many cities that are indelibly linked with the rivers that run through them. There's Newcastle and the Tyne, Glasgow and the Clyde, Liverpool and the Mersey and, of course, London and the Thames. One city that doesn't always spring to mind in quite the same way, however, is Nottingham, despite being bisected by the Trent. And while the river doesn't flow right through the city centre, it's still passes numerous homes and businesses, as well as the city's two football clubs, with the City Ground and Meadow Lane just 300 m away from each other. "Traditionally the city here has turned its back on the river, which is very odd actually as it's very attractive," says Nick Ebbs, chief executive of developer Blueprint.
