Growth in new construction orders has hit an 11-month high but cost pressures continue to add up, new data has revealed. December's Purchasing Managers' Index from Markit and the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply showed new orders grew at their fastest rate since January 2016, with residential orders showing a particularly strong increase. This helped lift the overall PMI level to 54.2, up from 52.8 in November and well above the 50.0 'no change' level, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth in construction activity.
