Coronavirus has hit those working in the construction industry hard and fast. Site shutdowns, lower output and lower demand is forcing firms to make tough decisions about their staffing levels. Many have concluded they cannot continue with the number of people they currently have, based on the money coming in. Profit is being eroded. This has resulted in salaries being temporarily slashed at Laing O'Rourke and Galliford Try, as well as hundreds of job cuts at Wates,Mace and Keltbray.
