This is the second edition of a book first published in 2008; it now includes enlarged and updated material, and overall forms another valuable publication by The Canal Book Shop. The author grew up on working narrow boats between 1934 and around 1959, and much of the book comprises a memoir of that period; between 1970 and retirement in 1994 he worked on maintenance on the Shropshire Union Canal.
