A MastenbroekTrenchmix machine has been fortifying embankments along the Rhine near Marckolsheim, a town in Alsace in eastern France. Specialist contractor Soletanche Bachy has been carrying out the project as part of a larger scheme to reinforce the flood banks on the river, with the aim of strengthening the core of the earth structure. The Mastenbroek TM80 was used to install a robust cut-off wall using the Trenchmix process, which involves mixing native soil in-situ with a cement binder in the trench as the machine advances. A dry cement powder was used to create a low permeability, and load-bearing barrier.
