Komatsu has introduced a new dozer, the 9 tonne class D37-23, which it claims offers significant reductions in fuel consumption. The machine features an EU Stage IIIB/US Tier 4 Interim Komatsu engine that is said to lower fuel consumption by up to 10% compared to Komatsu's Stage IIIA technology.The D37-23 also features two working modes - economy and power, to match applications. In addition, the D37-23 incorporates new proprietary engine and hydrostatic transmission pump (HST) control technology to improve operational efficiency - a feature which Komatsu claims increases productivity and reduces fuel consumption to levels lower than a conventional HST control system. Indeed, Komatsu claims this feature reduces fuel consumption by up to 10% in power mode in demanding working conditions and up to 20% in economy mode under lighter load conditions, compared to the prior model.
