Innovating together is the best way forward

People, planet, profit are three critical elements for engineering consultants looking to maximise sustainability on construction projects large and small, but the time has come to add a fourth P, effectively a fourth dimension to the engineering industry - psychology. I like to call it Pneuma - the breath, spirit or soul of life. The circular economy creates many needs beyond the traditional approach to construction and infrastructure. Local authorities, universities, engineers, contractors, producers, suppliers - they can't do it alone. But they are all stakeholders with their own business models so it is a mutual benefit to work together. Innovation Partnerships are all about co-operation and collaboration. There is still an imbalance in the planning and scoping stage with the contracting authority, and this needs to move if we are to make the most of our combined skills.
