Mustang Adds Pair of Articulated Wheel Loaders

Weighing in at 9,500 and 10,920 pounds, respectively, when equipped with an enclosed cab, the new Mustang 608 and 708 articulated wheel loaders feature two-speed hydrostatic transmissions with an inching pedal, and both use a Tier 4-certified engine-a 64.4-horsepower Yanmar with a diesel particulate filter in the 608 and a 74.3-horse-power Deutz with a diesel oxidation catalyst in the 708. Standard features for the new models include digital instrumentation, Power-A-Tach attachment-mounting system, multifunction joystick, and front and rear locking differentials activated from the joystick. A heavy-duty, oscillating articulation joint provides 45-degree turning angles left and right, complemented by 10 degrees of oscillation in both directions. This design, says Mustang, promotes optimal traction and maneuverability, and since the bucket and front tires follow a constant turning radius, the rear tires follow the path of the front tires. Narrow machine widths (66 and 84 inches, respectively, with the standard general-purpose bucket) allow the new loaders access into tight, confined spaces, which, says Mustang, most skid steer loaders with comparable operating capacities cannot access.
