More than 900 years ago, Norman monks compiled a remarkable inventory of English landholders and their property that has survived to this day as the Domesday Book. Stored safely in London, it can still be read. In 1986, the BBC marked the 900th anniversary of this document with a multimedia portrait of contemporary English life. The new Domesday Book-thousands of images, maps, data sets, and a full hour of video-was stored on 12-inch videodiscs made to be used with the BBC Micro, a PC once popular in Great Britain.
