The use of precast concrete is becoming much more imaginative. For many years, the typical precast unit was rectangular and flat. Usually it was only one colour, such as white aggregate in a white cement matrix. Such units are still widely used but the ease with which an almost unlimited range of shapes, designs, colours and textures may be achieved has stimulated the imagination of engineers and architects. The increased use of colour, both in the cement matrix and in exposed aggregate, has made it possible to produce eye-catching patterns or designs.
