Materials gantry for the Swale Crossing

The Isle of Sheppey is currently serviced by one crossing over the River Swale. The vertical lift Kingsferry Bridge provides access for road and rail traffic, as well as for pedestrians. Marine vessels travelling along the Swale take priority over users of the bridge and the lift imposes long delays and tailbacks during the rush hour. The lift mechanism has occasionally compounded these delays by sticking temporarily in the raised position, thereby causing the sole route of access to the Island to be cut off, resulting in concern for the local community.
