New concrete furniture at the Detmold Campus

In the "New Furniture for the Campus" project, students at the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design experimented with a new type of cement-bound material in the 2014/15 winter semester. What resulted was innovative furniture, exceptional seating areas and objects that toy with the onlooker's expectations. Wheelbarrows become chairs, while giant, soft-looking pillows turn out to be rock-hard benches and stools. This furniture is made of concrete, but it doesn't look like it because its surfaces are covered with fabric. The new material is called "Concrete Canvas." Under the tutelage of Professor Karl Manfred Rennertz, a sculptor, the laboratory for plastic design in interior design was playfully refurnished. There should eventually be weatherproof furniture for the Detmold campus; from 1 July to 2 August 2015, the prototypes graced the foyer of the MART a design museum in Herford.
