Applying Superpave Aggregate Technology to High-Strength PCC

Se llevaron a cabo investigaciones para cuantificar los efectos de la angularidad de agregados gruesos y la textura de superficies sobre la resistencia a la compresión de hormigón de cemento portland. Para realizar el objetivo, se obtuvo gravilla redondeada de un río local la cual fue triturada y una mezcla de hormigón fue dosificada. Los altos coeficientes de correlación indican que las medidas cuantitativas de angularidad pueden ser un medio útil en la preevaluación de agregados gruesos para su uso con el hormigón de alta resistencia.%The AASHTO TP 33 device, commonly used to establish compliance with superpave fine aggregate angularity requirements, was modified to measure the angularity and surface texture of coarse aggregates. To determine-the effect of angularity and surface texture of coarse aggregates on the compressive strength of high-strength port-land concrete cement (PCC), rounded river gravel, locally-available in Tennessee, close to ASTM C 33 No. 8 size (9.5 to 2.36 mm [3/8 to 0.01 in.]), was obtained in the natural condition and crushed. A 65 MPa (9400 psi) concrete mixture was proportioned using the rounded aggregate. Thirty batches of the mixture were produced, ten using the natural rounded coarse aggregate, ten using crushed coarse aggregate, and ten using equal amounts of each shape.
