At the time of going to press in mid-June, rumours persisted over the identities of the contenders to buy Hapag-Lloyd Container Line (HLCL) from TUI, and how much they would be willing to offer. NOL, for example, is said to be contemplating a price of betweem EUR6-7 (USD9.4-USD11) billion, but as TUI has yet to set the ground rules for a bid, it is not clear how anything can be so easily quantified. According to TUI's accounts, shipping's assets in 2007 amounted to EUR4.5 billion, but it had liabilities of EUR3.3 billion, giving the division a net value of EUR1.2 billion.
