A new ocean carrier has appeared on the horizon.rnCalled The Containership Company, it is owned by Oslo-based Boxton Maritime and Copenhagen-based Kayser Maritime, but bulk shipping magnate John Fredriksen is rumoured to be contemplating becoming a partner or investor. Kayser Maritime is owned by Franck Kayser, who used to be a senior executive of Maersk Line and CMA CGM.rnThe aim of the new company is to take advantage of the collapse in vessel charter rates to compete against those established players that have much greater economies of scale.rnAsked to comment on the venture in more detail, Jakob Tol-strup Moller, managing partner of Boxton Marine, would only say that it was still too early to be more specific.rnThe rumour is that, providing enough funding is obtained, the company's services will be run along the lines of a budget airline, offering only port-to-port B/Ls, and not always to mainstream ports.rnIf this is true, the service profile appears best suited to forwarding agents, who have always argued that landside operations should be left to them.
