US east coast (USEC) ports have had a tough year thus far with volumes significantly down on the corresponding period of 2008.rnHowever, the recent spurt in all-water services from Asia and the phasing into service of a widened Panama Canal within the next four/five years, mean that operators/ stevedores are planning for growth.rnCurrently, only three ports on the US' eastern seaboard have sufficient channel depth to take the anticipated influx of super-post-panamax vessels when the PanamarnCanal widening is completed in 2013/14.
