Newly-established marine services and salvage group Ardent is to have a fresh go at persuading the container shipping industry to work together on a scheme for handling casualties involving large vessels. The renewed call comes as the number of 18,000 teu-class ships in service rapidly increases, while fires in particular are becoming more frequent. An engine room flood on the 15,500 teu Emma Maersk in 2013 after a stern thruster failure, which took the ship out of action for several weeks, was a wake-up call for the industry.
