This work analyses the ability of the Singh-Mitchell and Taylor creep laws associated with a Modified Cam Clay model to predict the creep behaviour of a soft soil subjected to preloading. Firstly, the creep laws and constitutive model are validated by the results of CIU triaxial tests, creep oedometer tests and multi-stage triaxial tests, carried out in order to reproduce the effect of the preloading. After that, the creep laws/model are used to predict the long-term behaviour of an embankment built on soft soils subjected to preloading. The numerical predictions incorporating the creep phenomenon show a constant rate of increase in the settlement and the horizontal displacements, with a constant relationship between the settlement and the horizontal displacements.
