This issue of CLSR has a particular focus on surveillance, cyber terrorism, cyber-security, data protection and regulation of personal data. It is interesting to observe the ebb and flow of debate and academic analysis on these topics as the papers here derive from different parts of the world. Topics covered then include the challenges of cyber-terrorism and the global response; location and tracking of mobile devices; EU data protection regulation and the 'right to be forgotten'; private sector approaches to cyber-security; retention of personal information online; availability and use of personal data for security purposes within the EU; evaluation of Singapore's data protection legislation; liability for defamatory postings online in China and Hong Kong; reflections on software protection regulation within the EU; and comment pieces responding to the academic manifesto on data protection in Europe reported in the last issue as well as Malta's White Paper on digital rights.
