Court Extends Antitrust Oversight of Microsoft until 2009

On January 29, 2008, US District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly issued a ruling that extends judicial supervision of Microsoft until Nov. 12, 2009. In the absence of the extension, many of the terms of the company's 2001 antitrust settlement with state and federal governments were to have expired in November 2007, although the court had issued an interim extension until January 31 while it considered state motions seeking a five-year extension.
