IT Organizations Expand Unified Communications Functionality as Solutions Mature

Unified communications continues to mature as more applications emerge and organizations build out their UC solution suites. In the annual Computer Economics Technology Trends study, nearly two-thirds of respondents worldwide with annual revenue of at least $50 million are engaged in activities related to researching, investing in, or adopting UC solutions. As an enabling platform to improve business processes and employee productivity, UC continues to be an investment priority despite the soft economy.Importantly, most organizations that have adopted UC solutions report meeting their budget commitments, and 84% report a positive return on their investments. The survey also finds increased interest in cloud solutions. This trend will spur an increase in hybrid UC cloud adoption as organizations add new UC applications from service providers and integrate them into core on-premise platforms. Although organizations of all sizes are adopting this technology, midsize companies have the highest investment rate. We predict organizations of all sizes will continue investing in UC as demand for collaborative communications expands.
