摘要

This paper describes a teaching methodology in digital electronics education. Its purpose is to bridge the gap between traditional textbooks using out-of-date discrete 74-series TTL chips and the current industry in which FPGA components and EDA design tools are becoming the standard. The principles and practices of digital components are presented to the students from five aspects, that is, classroom lecture, Multisim homework assignments, breadboard lab practices, Xilinx ISE computer design and simulation, and FPGA board verification. This approach is expected to help students better prepare for the current trends of digital systems design while not sacrificing the basic theories and principles.
