摘要

Generalized models of optical networks for long-distance traffic in the USSR were studied, assuming a telephone density level up to 200 million subscribers. The required capacities of network elements and cost, the influence of network structural parameters on cost, the characteristics of network elements, and future transmission rate and modularity level of transit connections at network nodes were investigated. The study took into account relationships between the regions of the country, geographical situation, location of current big switching nodes, and requirements for provision of appropriate structural reliability level. Both hierarchical and nonhierarchical networks were considered. The conclusions of the study are summarized.
