Prescribing Faith: Medicine, Media, and Religion in American Culture

As in many other countries, the United States seems to have a pandemic of anxiety, which pharmaceutical companies (and websites) feed upon, making more money from this (as Badaracco says, p.1) than from oil. Religion, even in the USA, is seen to have a decreasing influence and complementary and alternative medicines are growing fast as acceptable therapies. Mind-body medicine, like meditation, is being used for stress reduction, but along with this there is also a return to "folk" and botanical cures and prayer from various faith groups.
