A WOULD-BE TRANSPORT manager has had his application refused after a traffic commissioner (TC) found evidence that he had been involved in a £1m tax fraud at a previous company. Atif Mirza applied to be transport manager of both Universal Delivery Solutions and MBL Express, but in a written decision following a hearing, TC Kevin Rooney said he became aware during the application process that Mirza had been disqualified from acting as a company director for nine years until 2024. The liquidators of ABM Technology explained in a report that the company had been involved in a highly complex VAT fraud, known as 'carousel fraud.' At the hearing, Mirza told the TC he had set up a company in 2007, importing ink cartridges from China and selling them online. He also sold other products such as computer peripherals and hardware.
