For more than a century our road tests have provided a consistent benchmark as vehicles have progressed through steam power to diesel, and increasingly today, alternative forms of power, some unheard of in the early days, and some, surprisingly making a re-emergence as new manufacturing and materials technologies have made them more feasible than first time around, and environmental priorities have changed in their favour.
