DVSA issues reminder over upcoming EU directive

THE DVSA HAS REMINDED hauliers that the EU Roadworthiness Directive will be implemented on 20 May.In a blog post, Gordon Thompson, head of testing policy at the DVSA, detailed the changes and the steps undertaken by the agency to prepare for them.These include the publishing on gov.uk of the new heavy vehicle inspection and categorisation of defects manuals.There are also changes to existing items in the test including:1. tighter emission standards for newer diesel engine vehicles;2. increased brake efficiencyrequirements for later drawbartrailers;3. an increase in the number ofreserve applications of the brakepedal for air brake systems.
