DfT looks at extension to clamping crackdown

ROADS MINISTER JESSE Norman said the government may look at extending the roadside parking ban enforcement in place in Ashford to other parts of England.In a statement concerning a DfT report on HGV parking in the UK, Norman said the trial around the M20 "has had considerable success in its first six months. Subject to the findings of this 18-month trial, we will be looking to promote the wider application of such measures elsewhere".The trial, which went live last October, gave local authorities additional powers to enforce a long-standing parking ban. Kent Country Council and Ashford Borough Council are able to clamp vehicles parked illegally, and drivers must pay £250 to have them released.
