Jost acquires Daimler's trailer axle business

Jost, supplier of fifth-wheel couplings and landing gear, is to purchase Mercedes-Benz TrailerAxleSystems from Daimler. "We have shaken hands: now we are waiting for the lawyers," said Jost chief executive Lars Brorsen. Mercedes introduced its Discos trailer axles in 1996, keen to find a new outlet for the newly developed disc-brakes used on the Actros launched that year. The trailer axles are produced alongside Mercedes' truck axles at the Daimler plant in Kassel, Germany. Brorsen said he plans to move technical functions to a new office in Kassel, but trailer axle production will be shifted line by line over the next 18 months to a Jost plant in Poland that makes couplings and landing legs.
