THE RHA HAS slammed HMRC over its refusal to back down on a change to the overnight allowance scheme. The association said the change is unnecessary and will add cost and confuse hauliers. The current overnight allowance scheme was introduced in 1990/91 and allows drivers to claim £26.20 for each night they are away. It covers items such as food, laundry and phone charges (but not parking).
