In the first part of the above topic, already published in the last issue of COLOURAGE[1], the burning process in textiles and the flammability of various textiles were described. The importance of LOI or Limiting Oxygen Index, as a tool to assess flammability was also dealt with. In this installment, Dr. G P. Nair looks at the various factors that influence fibre and fabric flammability and the complexities of flammability testing-some of the important factors determining the development and use of flame retardant textiles.
