Only few chemical compounds are capable of so many applications as the silicones. Silicone was invented during extensive search for better insulating materials which can withstand high temperature applications. Since its invention, there were many attempts to utilise silicones in the textile finishing requirements like lubrication, softness, water repellency, hydrophobicity, wrinkle free finishes, textile coatings etc. These requirements are met with suitable modification either in the pendent groups or at the terminal point at desirable chain length of the silicone backbone.
