Seminar on 'Technical textiles in India - today & tomorrow'

Aseminar on "Technical Textiles in India - Today & Tomorrow" was organised jointlyby SASMIRA and Indian Fibre Society on 30th April, 2005 at SASMIRA auditorium, Mumbai. The Seminar was inaugurated by Mr. R. Poornalingam, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India who was the Chief Guest. Mr. Subodh Kumar, Textile Commissioner was the Guest of Honour. The inaugural session started with the welcome address by Mr. M.K. Bardhan, Director, SASMIRA. Mr. Bardhan stated that after a series of .seminars organised by SASMIRA earlier on various technical textiles, the present seminar aimed at highlighting the market potential of such textiles in India to the prospective entrepreneurs. Mr. Maganlal H. Doshi, President of SASMIRA in his address pointed out that with the dismantling of quota system governing the global trade in textiles and clothing, the industry needs to focus in emerging areas of value-added technical textiles to meet global competition and to contain import for domestic consumption. Dr. R.P. Nachane, Honorary Secretary of Indian Fibre Society gave an account of their activities and the background of conducting present seminar in collaboration with SASMIRA.
