摘要

Shrinking of fabrics, particularly for cotton and cotton blends, is generally carried out in the final finishing process in order to give dimensional stability for the subsequent making up operation. This is carried out by a controlled compressive shrinking process. Normally accepted residual shrinkage values are +/- 1% in both warp and weft directions. Achieving such a result depends on factors related to fabric characteristics, the processing parameters and above all to the shrinking machine and its operation. Shrinking ranges can additionally give a good handle to the fabric thereby enhancing both functional and aesthetic values of the fabric.
