Natural resources are used up in the world with chemists and technologists being called upon to develop innovative ways to replace renewable resources, with non renewable ones. For this green chemistry principles must be applied to the resource industry. The concept of green chemistry is slowly getting foot hold and is being implemented with a wider vision. The society is dependent on the chemical industry to maintain the current standard of living and quality of our lives. The past two decades have been an era of successful chemistry in the area of- textile processing, auxiliary manufacturing, water treatment, waste disposal methods, material sciences, and petroleum derivatives. Unfortunately, all these advances come with a price tag of pollution. Today with growing awareness in the general public of the need for sustainable development, the chemistry fraternity is under increasing pressure to change current working practices and to find safer, cleaner and greener alternatives.
