Unique patented antimicrobial provides the right answers to pressing textile and apparel industry questions

Over the past several years, consumers around the world have been increasingly emphasizing the value they have for hygienic, high-performing textiles and apparel. This, in turn, has led to a greater use of antimicrobial agents by manufacturers and brand owners to control odor-causing bacteria in their products. Approximately five years ago, Dow Microbial Control, a business unit of The Dow Company, saw opportunity in this accelerating use of antimicrobial agents in the textile and apparel industry. It embarked on a three-year process to develop a cutting-edge antimicrobial that would create value in the marketplace by addressing the shortcomings of traditional microbial control systems. This rigorous new product development effort culminated in late 2012 with the introduction of Silvadur Antimicrobial. Since its introduction, Silvadur has achieved growth in a number of market segments, including casual apparel, denim, active wear, footwear, home furnishings and bedding, uniforms and carpet and area rugs.
