Heroic Half-Pint: The Tale of the Persistent Ford V-8/60

It must have been summer 1950 when I fell in with Don Collins, who with a partner operated a body shop in a residential area near the center of Kalamazoo, Michigan. At the time, he and a colleague were adapting a Graham Hollywood to take a "flathead" Cadillac V-8, using its roof to form the rear deck of a future roadster. I never did see it completed. I had my first cup of coffee and my first sight of racy comics with brush-cut Collins. I also recall a nocturnal visit to a homestead on Kalamazoo's periphery where we picked up a gorgeous brunette named Joanne whom Don was seeing out of sight of her husband. Driving just for the heck of it, we motored around southwest Michigan in a black 1937 Ford coupe powered by a V-8/60 engine. Though that was my first and last acquaintance with the V-8/60,1 haven't forgotten it. Or Joanne.
