1979-81 Chrysler: Three Wrongs Don't Make a Right

In October 1978, Chrysler introduced its 1979 Newport and New Yorker, cars that were drastically different—much smaller—than any of the same name that had gone before. Chrysler Corporation had named Lee Iacocca president a month earlier, but different as they were, these were not Lee's cars. They were products of the "old" Chrysler, beautiful cars full of old promises that they could not keep. Unwanted Newports and New Yorkers sat on dealer lots while all of America waited for better times and better cars.
