The Downsized Big Buicks of 1977-79

This is the wave of the future," Buick General Manager David C. Collier proclaimed as he revealed his division's downsized 1977 "standard" cars to the automotive press. Compared to prior offerings, the new LeSabre, Estate Wagon, and Electra models were, Collier said, "more functional, easier to handle and park, easier to garage-and [they] get more miles to a gallon of gasoline." The 1971-76 full-sized Buicks ranked among the largest in the post-World War Ⅱ era. The '77s were the smallest in decades.
