In the Forties, Nicholas Dreystadt was described as one of the auto industry's busiest and most energetic leaders. Much of that impression was forged when he served as Cadillac's general manager between 1934 and 1946. Associates would remember him as an exacting but warm boss with an engagingly droll personality.Born in Germany in 1889, Dreystadt's early education focused on mechanical and engineering studies. He was first employed by Mercedes, starting as an apprentice mechanic assigned to, some sources say, its racing team.
