摘要

College kids are taking their yarn and needles to class, 20- and 30- somethings gather in coffee shops and living rooms for "stitch-and- bitch" sessions where they work on their latest hat or scarf, and in many hip urban areas, yarn shops are popping up faster than Starbucks. New knitting titles are hitting the magazine racks; books on the subject are flying out of Barnes and Noble, and the upmarket decorating magazine House and Garden devoted six pages to knitting in its January issue. The latest Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA) study shows the number of knitters and crocheters under age 45 has doubled in the past six years; interest in classes is up 26% since 2000, and those who knit show a 40% increase in the number of projects they tackle each year.
