When Heidi Spievak's son, Zaki, came home from school with a homework assignment challenging him to identify a variety of geometric shapes, she immediately sought a fun way to teach the task at hand. With her knowledge of quilting, she realized that Zaki and his first grade class of 22 boys and girls could learn basic shapes using fabric quilt blocks. Heidi also thought that it is never too soon to teach and inspire the next generation of quil-ters.
