Cannabis testing lab adopts DNA-based microbial detection technique

US CDX Analytics (CDX), an independent testing lab, has installed a beta unit of LexaGene LX2 pathogen detection system. CDX is certified to test cannabis and hemp products for active ingredients and contaminants. The company is the first cannabis testing lab in MA, US to adopt a DNA-based microbial detection technique. "The largest obstacle in developing test methods for cannabis is that the cannabinoids can prevent the tests from working, so test methods usually require heavy customisation before they can be applied to cannabis," said Dr Brianna Cassidy, CDX's Chief Science Officer. The lab said that when the analyser was challenged with samples containing various amounts of cannabinoids, the instrument reported successful results in all runs where PCR was expected.
