DOE EXPEDITION CONFIRMS GAS HYDRATE DEPOSITS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO

The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), a division of the United States (U.S.) Department of Energy, has completed a landmark gas hydrate drilling expedition in the Gulf of Mexico. The 21 -day expedition-conducted jointly with the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Minerals Management Service, an industry research consortium led by Chevron, and others-discovered highly saturated hydrate bearing sands in at least in two of three sites drilled.
