DOE ANNOUNCES NEW INITIATIVES AT CLEAN ENERGY MINISTERIAL

The United States (U.S.) Department of Energy (DOE) announced more than 10 international clean energy initiatives at the world's first Clean Energy Ministerial meeting held in Washington, DC, in July. These initiatives will help deploy smart grid, electric vehicle and carbon capture technologies and support renewable energy markets to promote economic growth, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.rnMinisters from 24 governments participated in the two-day ministerial meeting. Participating governments included China, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the U.S. These countries represent more than 80 percent of global energy consumption and a similar percentage of the global market for clean energy technologies. Another initial partner was the International Energy Agency (IEA), based in Paris, France.
