TOYOTA FCHV-ADV FEATURES ADVANCED COLD START TECHNOLOGY

Toyota Motor Company, Ltd. has been developing fuel cell technologies for its Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV) since 1992. Through multiple generations, it has continually improved the performance. The FCHV-adv, the latest model released in June 2008, shows significant advances in driving range, cold start capability and stack durability. It employs a rapid startup method that has demonstrated cold start capability in temperatures down to -30°C.rnK. Manabe et al. described the rapid startup system in the FCHV-adv at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International World Congress held in Detroit, Michigan, in April.
