U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT ISSUES FINAL EIS FOR THE KEYSTONE XL OIL PIPELINE

In September 2008, TransCanada Keystone Pipeline, LP filed an application for a Presidential Permit with the United States (U.S.) Department of State (DOS) to build and operate the Keystone XL Project. The proposed project would have the capacity to transport roughly 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil from a supply hub in Hardisty, Alberta, Canada, to delivery points in Oklahoma and Texas. The pipeline would consist of approximately 1,711 miles of new 36 inch diameter pipeline, with approximately 327 miles of pipeline in Canada and 1,384 miles in the U.S. The U.S. portion of the pipeline would begin near Morgan, Montana, at the international border and extend to delivery points in Nederland and Moore Junction, Texas. There would also be a delivery point at Cushing, Oklahoma.
