MITSUBISHI REPORTS EV BATTERY PACK FIRE AND MELTING

In March, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors Corporation reported instances of a fire and melting occurring in the drive battery packs used for the company's electric vehicle (EV) lineup. According to the Wall Street Journal, the batteries were manufactured by Lithium Energy Japan, a joint venture established in 2007 by GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi Motors and the Mitsubishi Corporation. GS Yuasa stock fell 11 percent after the car battery problems were reported and Mitsubishi stock declined 3.9 percent.
