日本は連合国の一員として第一次世 界人戦に参戦し，ドイツに頼っていた化 学製品の輸入が止まる事態となった.こ のとき.研究所は輸入が途絶えた合成染 科の製造に短期間で成功する.戦後は研 究設備が拡充され，業務革新の取組みに より最新の精選装置や抄紙機が導入され た.%During World War Ⅰ， imports of industrial materials from Germany were suspended. Some of them were indispensable for manufacturing banknotes. The Research Institute of the Printing Bureau succeeded in the development of alternative materials, and banknotes were manufactured as usual. After World War Ⅰ, a new research laboratory was built and the latest equipment was introduced at the paper mill. After the Manchurian Incident in 1931, new banknotes of the Central Bank of Manchuria were manufactured by the Printing Bureau. As the war expanded, the production volume increased more and more. New plants were set up in Japan, and also in the occupied territories. This paper describes the manufacturing of the banknote paper between the two world wars.
