The Local Government Association (LGA) represents the local authorities of England and Wales - just under 500 authorities in total - which themselves represent more than 50million people and spend almost £80billion a year. Following its General Assembly a couple of months ago a new chairman, Cllr Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart OBE, was elected and with him came a new committee structure for the LGA. This new, streamlined structure has seen the original 19 executives replaced by six boards: Improvement, Children and Young People, Regeneration, Adults, Safer Communities and the Environment Board.
